WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Vista Point Mortgage reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed. According to the breach notice, earlier this year Vista Point Mortgage became aware of suspicious activity related to two employees’ email accounts.1 As a result, Vista Point Mortgage launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, Vista Point Mortgage confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been compromised by an unauthorized third-party using the employees’ email accounts between May 21, 2024, and June 5, 2024. As a result, Vista Point Mortgage began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Driver’s license number
  • Government issued ID number (e.g., passport, state ID card)
  • Financial information (e.g., account number, credit or debit card number)

On November 18, 2024, Vista Point Mortgage began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice mailed to Maine residents, Vista Point Mortgage is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring.
