Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Midwest Technical Inspections (“MTI”) regarding its recent data breach. The MTI data breach involved sensitive personal information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

MTI is an insurance inspection and audit provider based in Illinois. Founded in 1988, MTI provides a range of inspection and safety consulting services for personal, commercial, and state and local government needs, including field inspections, telephone inspections, audits, loss control, residential valuations, training seminars, management reports, data mining, and more.2,3 Headquartered in Bloomingdale, Illinois, MTI employs over 200 individuals.3
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, MTI reported to the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been compromised. Through an investigation, MTI confirmed that sensitive personal information in its network may have been accessed and acquired by an unauthorized third party on August 2, 2025.
In the sample breach notice provided to the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, MTI does not elaborate further on the nature of the security incident that impacted its systems. In response to the breach, MTI began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:4
- Name
- Social Security number
As a result of the breach, MTI began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Massachusetts residents, MTI is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
