WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, BYU-Pathway Worldwide reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, the BYU-Pathway Worldwide information security team became aware of a potential security incident that occurred on or about June 17, 2025, involving a vendor’s account.1 As a result, BYU-Pathway Worldwide launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, BYU-Pathway Worldwide confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been accessed by an unauthorized third party. As a result, BYU-Pathway Worldwide began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Account ID
- Address
- Phone number
- Gender
- Marital status
- Religious affiliation
- Age
- Records of educational courses
