AultCare is a healthcare company based in Ohio. Founded in 1985, AultCare administers health plans for individuals and employers, including medical, dental, vision, short term disability, workers compensation, and flexible spending accounts.2 Today, benefits plans administered by AultCare include group or individual coverage and Medicare Advantage plans for Medicare eligibles.2 Headquartered in Canton, Ohio, AultCare employs over 500 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, AultCare reported to the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed. According to the breach notice, on September 25, 2024, AultCare became aware of unusual activity in an employee’s email account. 1 As a result, AultCare launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, AultCare confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been compromised by an unauthorized third party through an employee’s email account and SharePoint instance on September 25, 2024. As a result, AultCare began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On or about November 22, 2024, AultCare notified affected employer-sponsored health plans of the breach. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Date of birth
- Address
As a result of the data breach, AultCare began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Massachusetts residents, AultCare is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
