Kinsler Family Dentistry Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Julie D. Kinsler, DDS & Team, which does business as Kinsler Family Dentistry (“Kinsler”) regarding its recent data breach. The Kinsler data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information belonging to approximately 5,500 individuals.

ABOUT JULIE D. KINSLER, DDS & TEAM D/B/A KINSLER FAMILY DENTIRSTRY:

Kinsler is a dental practice based in Indiana. Today, Kinsler provides an array of general dental services to individuals and families, including cleanings, exams, Invisalign®, children’s dentistry, and teeth whitening.2 Additionally, Kinsler offers more advanced services such as dental implant restorations, porcelain veneers, dentures and partials, tooth-colored fillings, dental sealants, crowns and bridges, dental emergencies, and fluoride varnish. 2 Frankfort, Indiana, is the location of Kinsler’s practice.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Kinsler announced that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on or about June 6, 2024, Kinsler became aware of suspicious activity that disrupted access to certain computer systems. As a result, Kinsler launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, Kinsler learned that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and taken by an unauthorized actor on June 6, 2024. As a result, Kinsler began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On July 19, 2024, Kinsler completed this review. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
  • Insurance number
  • Dental treatment and/or medical history information

 

As a result of the data breach, Kinsler posted a notice of the incident on its website. Additionally, on August 9, 2024, Kinsler mailed data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice on its website, Kinsler will be providing affected individuals with a list of the specific type of sensitive information impacted and complementary credit monitoring services.
