Specialty Networks Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Specialty Networks, Inc. regarding its recent data breach. The Specialty Networks data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

ABOUT SPECIALTY NETWORKS, INC.:

Specialty Networks is an application services provider for Picture Archive and Communication Systems (PACS).2 PACS is a medical imaging technology that provides economical storage, retrieval, management, distribution, and presentation of medical images.3 PACS storage refers to the storage infrastructure dedicated to housing these medical images and related data within a healthcare facility.3 Additionally, Specialty Networks grew to be a provider of radiology information systems (RIS), digital transcription services and Enterprise Practice Management solutions (EPM).2 Founded in 2004, Specialty Networks is headquartered in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Specialty Networks announced that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on December 18, 2023, Specialty Networks detected suspicious activity within its computer network. As a result, Specialty Networks launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, Specialty Networks learned that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and taken by an unauthorized actor on or around December 11, 2023. As a result, Specialty Networks began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On August 12, 2024, Specialty Networks completed this review. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
  • Driver’s license number
  • Medical information (e.g., medical record number, treatment and condition information, diagnoses, medications)
  • Health insurance information

 

As a result of the data breach, Specialty Networks posted a notice of the incident on its website. Additionally, on August 15, 2024, Specialty Networks began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice on its website, Specialty Networks will be providing affected individuals with a list of the specific type of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
