OneBlood is a not-for-profit blood center based in Florida. WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, OneBlood announced that it had experienced a ransomware attack in which the sensitive personal information in its systems may have been impacted. According to the notice posted on its website, on July 29, 2024, OneBlood became the target of ransomware that impacted parts of its software environment. As a result, OneBlood launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

As of August 5, 2024, not much is known about the incident, including which information or data may have been impacted. While OneBlood’s software systems are beginning to come back online, they are currently operating at a reduced capacity. In its breach notice OneBlood’s senior vice president of corporate communications and public relations released a statement saying, “The investigation into the ransomware event is ongoing. The OneBlood team along with outside specialists continue to work around the clock to bring our operations back to full capacity as soon as possible.”1 A link to the notice OneBlood posted on its website is below.
