Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating The Burton Corporation regarding its recent data breach. The Burton data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information belonging to over 5,200 current or former employees of The Chill Foundation.
ABOUT BURTON:
Burton is a sporting goods company specializing in the manufacture of snowboard products. Accordingly, Burton offers snowboards, bindings, boots, outerwear, apparel, accessories, and more. Founded in 1977, Burton’s team is composed of some of the world’s leading snowboarders, including Anna Gasser and Mark McMorris. Headquartered in Burlington, Vermont, Burton operates international offices in Austria, Canada, China, and Japan, and conducts business globally.
WHAT HAPPENED?
On or about February 11, 2023, Burton discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. While the investigation is ongoing, Burton determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed and obtained sensitive information related to current or former employees of The Chill Foundation, an organization that Burton collects data from. On or about March 27, May 5, and May 26, 2023, Burton began contacting individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Driver’s license or state-issued identification number
- Passport number
- Date of birth
- Financial account information
