Bauer Built Data Breach Investigation

Bauer Built is a family-owned commercial tire dealer and retread manufacturer based in Wisconsin. Founded in 1944, Bauer Built offers a complete line or tires, including passenger tires, light truck tires, commercial truck tires, custom and stock retreads, agricultural and farm tires, industrial tires, off-road tires, major brands, and private label tires.2 Additionally, Bauer Built provides vehicle maintenance services such as oil changes, wheel alignments, brake repairs, exhaust repairs, suspension repairs, as well as 24-hour emergency roadside tire service. Headquartered in Durand, Wisconsin, Bauer Built has 40 additional locations across the Midwest and employs over 500 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Bauer Built discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. Through its investigation, Bauer Built determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed and acquired this sensitive information between April 16 and April 21, 2023. On December 8, 2023, Bauer Built began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Government identification number
  • Driver’s license or state identification number
  • Financial account number
