Founded in 1972, KWS designs and manufactures a variety of conveying equipment for the bulk material handling industry.2 Today, KWS’ primary customers are end users, power transmission distributors, engineering firms, system suppliers and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).2 Headquartered in Burleson, Texas, KWS employs over 1,000 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, KWS reported to the Attorney General of Maine that the sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been accessed. According to the breach notice, KWS recently learned of suspicious activity in its computer environment.1 As a result, KWS launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, KWS confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been compromised by an unauthorized third party between January 24 and January 25, 2025. As a result, KWS began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Address
- Date of birth
- Driver’s license number
- Government issued ID number (e.g., passport, state ID card)
- Financial information (e.g., account number, credit or debit card number)
- Medical information
- Health insurance information
On April 15, 2025, KWS began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, KWS is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
