Founded in 1960, D’Youville provides a variety of care for seniors, including short stay rehabilitation and transitional care, specialized Alzheimer’s and dementia care, long term nursing care, hospice care, assisted living and memory care, and independent living.3 Today, D’Youville has a 75-acre campus and serves over 1,500 seniors annually in the Greater Lowell Massachusetts area and surrounding communities.4 Headquartered in Lowell, Massachusetts, D’Youville employs over 200 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, D’Youville announced that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, D’Youville recently became aware of suspicious activity involving its computer network.1 As a result, D’Youville launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, D’Youville confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and obtained by an unauthorized third party between October 5 and October 25, 2023. As a result, D’Youville began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On November 22, 2024, D’Youville completed this review. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social security number
- Date of birth
- Financial account type and number
- Medical information (e.g., admission date, patient account number, medical record number, medical treatment information, medical claim information)
- Health insurance information
On January 29, 2025, D’Youville posted a notice of the incident on its website. On the same day, D’Youville began sending breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the website breach notice, D’Youville is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services.
