Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Regional Care, Inc. (“RCI”) regarding its recent data breach. The RCI data breach may have involved sensitive personal information and protected health information belonging to over 225,000 individuals.

RCI is an independent third-party administrator based in Nebraska. Founded in 1992, RCI offers a complete portfolio of products and services for self-insured companies, either directly or through partnerships, including the selection and design of benefit plans.4 Today, RCI provides professional and personalized claims service for every employee, serving more than 200 clients with members in all 48 states.4 Headquartered in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, RCI employs over 50 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, RCI reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on or around September 18, 2024, RCI became aware of unusual activity on an account within its computer network.1 As a result, RCI launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, RCI confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed or obtained by an unauthorized third party during the breach. As a result, RCI began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On November 8, 2024, RCI completed this review. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Date of birth
- Medical information
- Health insurance information
On December 16, 2024, RCI began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, RCI is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
