Founded in 1979, RRCA serves businesses along the Lincoln Highway between DeKalb, Illinois, and Clinton, Iowa.2 Today, RRCA offers a full range of collection services including an in-house attorney.2 Although medical care facilities and providers are its primary market, RRCA services utility and retail clients, all sizes of businesses, property owners, and municipalities.2 Headquartered in Sterling, Illinois, RRCA has two additional locations in DeKalb, Illinois, and Clinton, Iowa.
WHAT HAPPENED?
On October 24, 2024, RRCA reported to the Attorney General of New Hampshire that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed by an unauthorized third party. According to the breach notice, RRCA experienced a security incident from a ransomware attack on June 6, 2024, and learned about the release of personal information from the incident on August 20, 2024.1 As of October 28, 2024, additional details of the breach have not been made publicly available by RRCA. While not much is known about the breach, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Address
- Date of birth
- Driver’s license number
- Financial information (e.g., account number, credit or debit card number)
- Meical information
- Health insurance information
