Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating True World Holdings, LLC, which does business as True World Group, LLC (“True World”), and certain of its subsidiaries, regarding its recent data breach. True World is a diversified seafood products company based in New Jersey. Founded in 1976, True World processes and manufactures high quality seafood products, owns Japanese retailers, Sushi Stores, and supply high-end restaurants, hotels, and other fine food establishments with food products from around the world.2 Additionally, True World and its subsidiaries offers a wide range of products with a decidedly Asian focus including: frozen seafood, non-seafood items, fresh produce, gourmet meats, dry grocery products as well as a full line of restaurant tools, supplies, tableware and equipment.3 Headquartered in Rockleigh, New Jersey, True World employs over 1,000 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, True World reported to the Attorney General of Montana that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on August 23, 2024, True World identified unusual activity involving certain systems and servers within its network.1 As a result, True World launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, True World discovered that sensitive personal information belonging to current and former employees in its systems may have been viewed and obtained by an unauthorized third party. As a result, True World began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. The exact type of personal information potentially exposed has not been made publicly available by True World. However, according to state reporting guidelines, “personal information” can include the following types of information:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Driver’s license or state identification card number
- Account number or credit or debit card number, in combination with any required security code, access code, or password that would permit access to an individual’s financial account
- Medical record information
- Taxpayer identification number
- An identity protection personal identification number issued by the United States internal revenue service
As a result of the data breach, True World began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Montana residents, True World is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific type of sensitive information impacted and 12 months complimentary credit monitoring services.
