Calibrated Healthcare Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Calibrated Healthcare, LLC (“Calibrated”) regarding its recent data breach. The Calibrated data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

Calibrated is a healthcare administrative and management company based in California. Founded in 2006, Calibrated manages over 11 million lives in over 8 states, partnering with industry leaders in the area of managed care.3 Today, Calibrated’s operating model features global workforce strategies coupled with efficient technological solutions.3 Accordingly, Calibrated’s core suite of services includes Claims Adjudication, Utilization Management, Medical Management, Complex Case Management, Benefits Setup, Member Enrollment, Eligibility Setup, Claims System Configuration, HCC Coding, and Credentialing.3 These services are catered to Health Plans, Management Services Organizations (MSOs), Independent Physician Associations (IPAs), Third Party Administrators (TPAs) and at risk Medical Groups.4 Headquartered in Ontario, California, Calibrated has additional locations in India and the Philippines, and employs over 1,000 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Calibrated reported to the Attorney General of California that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. According to the breach notice, on February 26, 2024, Calibrated discovered suspicious activity related to certain systems within its computer network. As a result, Calibrated launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, Calibrated learned that sensitive personal information may have been viewed or copied from its network between February 25 and February 26, 2024. As a result, Calibrated began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
  • Driver’s license number
  • Medical information (e.g., medical diagnosis/treatment information)
  • Health insurance information (e.g., claims and billing information)

 

As a result of a data breach, Calibrated began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to California residents, Calibrated is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific type of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
