WHAT HAPPENED?
On or around September 5, 2023, Kovack Financial discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. Through its investigation, Kovack Financial determined that an unauthorized third party accessed this sensitive information through certain Kovack Financial email accounts between August 15, 2023, and September 5, 2023. On July 9, 2024, Kovack Financial began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The exact type of personal information potentially exposed has not been made publicly available by Kovack Financial. However, according to state reporting guidelines, “personal information” can include the following types of information:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Driver’s license or state ID number
- Account number, credit or debit card number
- Account passwords or personal identification numbers or other access codes
