WHAT HAPPENED?

On January 25, 2023, Wegner CPAs concluded that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed and obtained. Through its investigation, Wegner CPAs determined that an unauthorized actor accessed and acquired this sensitive information. Furthermore, fraudulent tax returns were later discovered to have been filed on behalf of certain clients and individuals. On February 24, 2023, Wegner CPAs began contacting individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
  • Driver’s license number
  • Financial information (e.g., account number)
