Headquartered in Boone, North Carolina, Samaritan’s Purse operates offices in nine countries and provides assistance to over 100 nations.
WHAT HAPPENED?
On August 24, 2022, Samaritan’s Purse’s travel vendor experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed. Through its investigation, Samaritan’s Purse determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed this sensitive information. On November 11, 2022, Samaritan’s Purse began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The exact type of personal information has not been disclosed by Samaritan’s Purse. However, according to state reporting guidelines, “personal information” can include the following types of information:
- Social Security number
- Driver’s license or identification card number
- Financial information (e.g., credit or debit card number, security or access code, or password)
- Account passwords or personal identification numbers
