Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Deaconess Health System (“Deaconess”) regarding its recent data breach. The Deaconess data breach involved sensitive personal information and protected health information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.
ABOUT DEACONESS HEALTH SYSTEMS:
Deaconess is a healthcare network based in Indiana. Today, Deaconess provides a range of healthcare services to patients, including imaging, immediate care, lab work, behavioral health, home care, pediatrics, pain management, primary care, and more.2,3 Headquartered in Evansville, Indiana, Deaconess employs over 1,700 individuals and operates 260 locations, including 22 hospitals.2
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Deaconess announced that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice shared on its website, on February 2, 2026, the release-of-information (ROI) vendor used by Deaconess, MediCopy, notified Deaconess of a data security incident that involved some Deaconess patient information related to ROI requests.1 As a result, Deaconess launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Deaconess confirmed that sensitive personal information in MediCopy’s filed sharing platform may have been accessed and acquired by an unauthorized third party on January 13, 2026. As a result, Deaconess began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Date of birth
- Medical record number
- Date of services
- Health insurance identification number
- Medical records related to treatment received at Deaconess
As a result of the breach, Deaconess posted notice of the breach on its website. Based on the website breach notice, Deaconess is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
