WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, CWA Local 1180 discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive protected health information in its systems may have been accessed. On February 13, 2026, CWA Local 1180 filed official notice of the data breach with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office for Civil Rights.1 Though much information is still not known about the CWA Local 1180 breach, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ reporting guidelines require entities to report data breaches when they involve protected health information. Therefore, it is likely that the CWA Local 1180 breach included the protected health information belonging to over 18,500 individuals. As a result of the data breach, CWA Local 1180 may soon begin notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted.
