National Boat Owners Association Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating National Boat Owners Association (“NBOA”) regarding its recent data breach. The NBOA data breach involved sensitive personal information belonging to over 3,500 individuals.

ABOUT NATIONAL BOAT OWNERS ASSOCIATION:

NBOA is boat insurance company based in Florida. Founded in 1984, NBOA provides insurance policies and financing for a range of watercraft vehicles, including power boats, sailboats, cabin cruisers, fishing boats, and yachts.2,3 Additionally, NBOA offers life jackets and other safety equipment for boats.2 Headquartered in Sarasota, Florida, NBOA employs over 10 individuals.3

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, NBOA reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on June 6, 2025, NBOA discovered an intrusion on its network.1 As a result, NBOA launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, NBOA confirmed that sensitive personal information in its network may have been accessed or acquired by an unauthorized third party between mid-May and early June 2025. As a result, NBOA began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:1,4

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Address
  • Insurance policy number and associated information

 

On January 21, 2026, NBOA began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, NBOA is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
