Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Friends of Family Health Center (“Friends of Family”) regarding its recent data breach. The Friends of Family data breach involved sensitive personal information and protected health information belonging to over 2,200 individuals.

Friends of Family is a non-profit healthcare center based in California. Today, Friends of Family provides a range of healthcare services to patients, including pediatric care, internal medicine, pre-natal care, dental care, behavioral health services, and more.2,3 Headquartered in La Habra, California, Friends of Family employs over 50 individuals and offers services across five locations in California.2,3
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Friends of Family reported to the Attorney General of California that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on October 2, 2025, TriZetto Provider Solutions (“TPS”), a third-party company which provides services to Friends of Family’s electronic health records vendor OCHIN, discovered suspicious activity in the TPS environment.1 As a result, TPS launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, TPS confirmed to Friends of Family that sensitive personal information in TPS systems related to Friends of Family patients may have been accessed by an unauthorized third party during the breach. As of January 23, 2026, the exact type of personal information potentially exposed has not been made publicly available by Friends of Family. However, according to California state reporting guidelines, “personal information” can include the following types of information:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Driver’s license number, California identification card number, tax identification number, passport number, military identification number, or other unique identification number issued on a government document
- Account number or credit or debit card number, in combination with any required security code, access code, or password that would permit access to an individual’s financial account
- Medical information
- Health insurance information
- Unique biometric data such as a fingerprint, retina, or iris image, used to authenticate a specific individual
- Information or data collected through the use or operation of an automated license plate recognition system
- Genetic data
On December 16, 2025, Friends of Family filed official notice of the data breach with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office for Civil Rights.4 Based on the breach notice sent to California residents, Friends of Family and TPS will be providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
