Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Baker University (“Baker”) regarding its recent data breach. The Baker data breach involved sensitive personal information and protected health information belonging to over 53,000 individuals.

Baker is a private liberal arts university based in Kansas. Founded in 1858, Baker offers students a range of undergraduate and graduate academic programs, including art studio, biology, computer science, engineering, history, and more.2,3,4 Headquartered in Baldwin City, Kansas, Baker employs over 200 individuals.3
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Baker announced that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice shared on its website, in December 2024, Baker discovered suspicious activity related to certain systems which resulted in a network outage.1 As a result, Baker launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Baker confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been accessed and/or acquired by an unauthorized third party between December 2 and December 19, 2024. As a result, Baker began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Date of birth
- Driver’s license number
- Financial account information
- Passport information
- Student identification number
- Tax identification number
- Health insurance information
- Medical information
As a result of the breach, Baker posted notice of the breach on its website. Additionally, on December 19, 2025, Baker began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals.5 Based on the website breach notice, Baker is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
