Founded in 1998, BenefitElect provides benefits administration tools and HR software for HR professionals, including administration automation, informational videos, classification software, enrollment reports, code management, and more.2,3,4,5 Headquartered in Bend, Oregon, BenefitElect employs at over ten individuals.3
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, BenefitElect announced that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice shared on its website, on April 2, 2025, BenefitElect became aware of potentially suspicious activity within certain systems in its computer network.1 As a result, BenefitElect launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, BenefitElect confirmed that the sensitive personal information in its systems may have been accessed and/or acquired by an unauthorized third party between March 30 and March 31, 2025.1 As a result, BenefitElect began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Address
- Date of birth
- Financial account information
As a result of the breach, BenefitElect posted notice of the data breach on its website. Based on the website breach notice, BenefitElect is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.1 A link to the website breach notice is below.
