WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, WMH reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on June 3, 2024, WMH detected a ransomware event.1 As a result, WMH launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, WMH confirmed that the sensitive personal information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed and encrypted by an unauthorized third party between May 30 and June 3, 2024.1 As a result, WMH began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Date of birth
- Driver’s license number or state ID number
- Financial information (account number, credit or debit card number, card expiration date or CVV code)
- Medicare or Medicaid number
- Health information (provider, diagnoses, medical history, treatment, prescriptions, lab test results or images)
- Health insurance member number
- User identification and password
On August 27, 2025, WMH began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, WMH is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services. 1 A link to breach notification letters that WMH filed with the Attorney General of Maine is below.
