WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Welcome Dentistry discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive protected health information in its servers may have been accessed. On August 13, 2025, Welcome Dentistry filed official notice of the data breach with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office for Civil Rights.1 Though much information is still not known about the Welcome Dentistry breach, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ reporting guidelines require entities to report data breaches when they involve protected health information. Therefore, it is likely that the Welcome Dentistry breach included the protected health information belonging to 1,000 individuals.1 As a result of the data breach, Welcome Dentistry may soon begin notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted.
