Lake City Cancer Care Data Breach Investigation

In addition to providing access to physicians and health resources, Lake City Cancer Care offers a variety of cancer treatment services, CT & PET simulation, intensity modulated radiation therapy, MammoSite, brachytherapy, and more.2 Headquartered in Lake City, Florida, Lake City Cancer Care provides treatment for patients through five doctors specializing in radiation oncology.2

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Lake City Cancer Care discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive protected health information in its systems may have been accessed. On August 15, 2025, Lake City Cancer Care filed official notice of the data breach with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office for Civil Rights.1 Though much information is still not known about the Lake City Cancer Care breach, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ reporting guidelines require entities to report data breaches when they involve protected health information. Therefore, it is likely that the Lake City Cancer Care breach included the protected health information belonging to over 9900 individuals. As a result of the data breach, Lake City Cancer Care may soon begin notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted.
