WAGI is a healthcare and research organization based in Washington. Founded in 2018, WAGI is the largest gastroenterology practice in Washington State, providing gastroenterology services for patients, including upper endoscopy and colonoscopy procedures. 3 Additionally, WAGI is a part of GI Alliance, a national network of gastroenterology practices.4 Headquartered in Tacoma, Washington, WAGI employs over 200 individuals, including over 40 Board-Certified Gastroenterologists and 20 Non-Physician Providers, across its 12 clinic locations.3
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, WAGI reported to the Attorney General of California that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on March 10, 2025, WAGI discovered that certain data was accessed and exposed by an unknown third party.¹ Following the breach discovery, WAGI launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
After concluding an investigation into the data breach, WAGI determined that sensitive personal identifiable information may have been exposed during the breach.¹ While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Medical information
On May 23, 2025, WAGI began providing notice to impacted individuals, and has since identified additional affected individuals who were sent notice on August 22, 2025. ¹ Based on the notice sent to California residents, WAGI is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.1 A link to the breach report filed by the Attorney General of California is below.
