WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Farmers reported to the Attorney General of California that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on May 30, 2025, one of Farmers’ third-party vendors alerted Farmers to suspicious activity involving an unauthorized actor accessing one of the vendor’s databases containing Farmers customer information.1 As a result, Farmers launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, Farmers confirmed that sensitive personal information belonging to customers in its third-party vendors systems may have been viewed and obtained by an unauthorized third party on May 29, 2025. As a result, Farmers began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. As of August 22, 2025, the type of information impacted in the breach has not been made clear by Farmers.

On August 22, 2025, Farmers began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to California residents, Farmers is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring services. A link to the form breach notification letters that Farmers filed with the Attorney General of California is below.
