Hulberg and Associates Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Hulberg and Associates, Inc. regarding its recent data breach. The Hulberg and Associates data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

Hulberg and Associates is a real estate valuation and advisory firm based in California. In 2013, Hulberg and Associates, along with over 40 independent appraisal firms, combined to create Valbridge Property Advisors, a nationwide commercial valuation and advisory services firm.3 Owned by its local practice leaders, Valbridge has 200 MAIs, 69 office locations and more than 675 staff across the nation.3 Hulberg and Associates is headquartered in San Jose, California.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Hulberg and Associates reported to the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on July 11, 2025, Hulberg and Associates experienced suspicious activity on one of its servers.1 As a result, Hulberg and Associates launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, Hulberg and Associates confirmed that sensitive personal information belonging to current and former employees and contractors in its systems may have been accessed by an unauthorized individual during the breach. As a result, Hulberg and Associates began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Address
  • Date of birth
  • Driver’s license and/or identification card
  • Passport or other government identification numbers
  • Bank routing and account numbers used for direct deposits

 

On August 19, 2025, Hulberg and Associates began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to California residents, Hulberg and Associates is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
