Founded in 2016, zizzl provides Individual Coverage Health Reimbursement Arrangement (ICHRA) solutions for employers and brokers in which employees choose from a variety of health plans based on their employer’s contribution.2 Different from a traditional group health plan experience, zizzl presents itself like a 401(k) plan for health insurance.3,4 Headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, zizzl employs over 10 individuals.3
WHAT HAPPENED?
On August 14, 2025, zizzl reported to the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed.1 According to the breach notice, on May 30, 2025, zizzl became aware of suspicious activity relating to a single employee’s email account.1 As a result, zizzl launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, zizzl determined that a successful phishing email allowed an unauthorized actor to access the impacted employee email account between May 29 and May 30, 2025.1 As a result, zizzl began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On July 22, 2025, zizzl completed its investigation. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
On August 14, 2025, zizzl began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Massachusetts residents, zizzl is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
