WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Dr. Doug’s discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed.1 According to a press release, in September 2024, Dr. Doug’s learned of unusual activity involving one of its email accounts.1 As a result, Dr. Doug’s launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Dr. Doug’s confirmed that sensitive patient information in the email account was affected during the breach.1 As a result, Dr. Doug’s began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. In June 2025, Dr. Doug’s completed its investigation. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Date of birth
- Address
- Driver’s license
- Health records (diagnosis and dental treatment information)
- Health insurance information
