WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, South Coast Pediatrics announced that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its care may have been compromised.1 According to the breach notice, on June 12, 2025, South Coast Pediatrics discovered a cybersecurity incident occurred on its systems and launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.1
Through its investigation, South Coast Pediatrics determined that sensitive patient information may have been exposed to an unauthorized third party during the breach. 1 As a result, South Coast Pediatrics began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. According to the breach notice, the sensitive personal information potentially affected includes the following types of information:
- Name
- Date of birth
- Address
- Medical record number
- Diagnosis information
- Treatment codes and descriptions
