WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, AVALA announced that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its care may have been compromised.1 According to the breach notice, on May 30, 2025, AVALA discovered a cybersecurity incident that impacted its IT systems.1 As a result, AVALA launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, AVALA determined that sensitive patient information may have been exposed to an unauthorized third party during the breach. 1 As a result, AVALA began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On July 23, 2025, AVALA completed its investigation. According to the breach notice, the sensitive personal information potentially affected includes the following types of information:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Date of birth
- Address
- Medical treatment information
- Health insurance information
