Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Washington State Opportunity Scholarship Foundation (“WSOSF”) regarding its recent data breach. The WSOSF data breach may have involved sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information belonging to over 16,500 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?
On July 25, 2025, WSOSF reported to the Attorney General of Washington that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on January 9, 2025, WSOSF discovered suspicious activity potentially related to an employee email acount.1 As a result, WSOSF launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, WSOSF confirmed that a number of WSOSF email accounts were subject to unauthorized access. As a result, WSOSF began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. This review concluded on July 9, 2025. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:4
- Name
- Social Security number
- Driver’s license number
- Financial & banking information
- Date of birth
- Passport number
- Health insurance policy or identification number
As a result of the data breach, WSOSF began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Washington residents, WSOSF is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.
