Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating First Baptist Church of Hammond (“FBC”) regarding its recent data breach. The FBC data breach may have involved sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information belonging to an unknown number of individuals.

FBC is an independent religious institution based in Indiana. Founded in 1887, FBC has been privileged to host conferences, purchase buildings, run school systems, plant other local churches in the northwest Indiana and Chicagoland area, send mission teams to other continents, reach out to the addicted, the poor, and the outcast, share the Gospel in public services and in one-on-one settings, go on missions trips, run a thrift store, provide a bookstore, and staff and maintain a radio station.2 Headquartered in Hammond, Indiana, FBC employs over 200 individuals.3
WHAT HAPPENED?
On July 15, 2025, FBC announced that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, in July 2025, an unknown cyber actor accessed FBC’s computer network and used a virus to lock files stored on certain computer systems.1 As a result, FBC launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, FBC learned that files containing information for staff and missionaries were copied. As a result, FBC began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Date of birth
- Driver’s license number
- Address
- Passport number
- Health information
As a result of the data breach, FBC posted a data breach notice on its website. Based on the breach notice, FBC is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
