WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Allianz Life reported to the Attorney General of Maine that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been compromised.1 According to ABC News, Allianz Life experienced a data breach on July 16, 2025, when a “malicious threat actor” gained access to a third-party, cloud-based system used by the company.4 The investigation is currently ongoing, but a representative of Allianz Life stated that the threat actor was able to obtain personally identifiable data related to the majority of Allianz Life’s customers, financial professionals, and select Allianz Life employees, using a social engineering technique.4
On August 1, 2025, Allianz Life began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Allianz Life is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
