WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Oregon Specialty Group discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive protected health information in its systems may have been accessed. On July 18, 2025, Oregon Specialty Group filed official notice of the data breach with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office for Civil Rights. 1 Though much information is still not known about the Oregon Specialty Group breach, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ reporting guidelines require entities to report data breaches when they involve protected health information. Therefore, it is likely that the Oregon Specialty Group breach included the protected health information belonging to over 3,300 individuals. As a result of the data breach, Oregon Specialty Group may soon begin notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted.
