WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Toast reported to the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been compromised. According to the sample breach notice, Toast recently identified suspicious login activity on its Payroll application.1As a result, Toast launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Toast confirmed that the sensitive personal information of clients’ employees may have been accessed by an unauthorized third party between June 30 and July 17, 2025.1 As a result, Toast began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Phone Number
- Date of birth
- Financial account number
On September 5, 2025, Toast began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Additionally, on or around July 21, 2025, Wusong Road LLC, a client of Toast, began providing separate notice of the breach to impacted employees.4 Based on the notice sent to Massachusetts residents, Toast is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring services.1 A link to the breach report filed by the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is below.
