WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Ellis Medicine reported to the Attorney General of Maine that the sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, Ellis Medicine identified suspicious activity related to an employee email account.1 As a result, Ellis Medicine began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted, as well as identify the specific individuals affected.
Through its investigation, Ellis Medicine determined that an employee email account was accessed by an unauthorized person for a limited period of time between January 17, 2025 through January 24, 2025, and March 27, 2025 through April 5, 2025.1 As a result, Ellis Medicine began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. This review concluded on May 14, 2025. The type of information potentially exposed has not yet been disclosed by Ellis Medicine.
On July 17, 2025, Ellis Medicine began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, Ellis Medicine is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
