Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Minnesota Lawyers Mutual Insurance Company (“MLMIC”) regarding its recent data breach. The MLMIC data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information belonging to an unknown number of individuals.

MLMIC is a professional liability insurance provider located across multiple states. Founded in 1982, MLMIC provides professional liability insurance and risk management resources for attorneys in private practice.3 Headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota, MLMIC also offers cybersecurity information and data breach response support.2
WHAT HAPPENED?
In July 2025, MLMIC posted a notice on its website of a cyber event. According to the breach notice posted on its website, on or around March 23, 2025, MLMIC became aware of a network disruption in their environment. As a result, MLMIC launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, MLMIC determined that files on certain MLMIC systems were subject to unauthorized access between February 20, 2025, and March 23, 2025.1 As a result, MLMIC began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. According to the breach notice, the sensitive personal information potentially affected includes the following types of information:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Address
- Driver’s license number
- Taxpayer identification number
- Financial account information
- Payment card information
- Medical information
- Health insurance information
