The Alcohol and Drug Testing Service Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating The Alcohol and Drug Testing Service, Inc. (“TADTS”) regarding its recent data breach. The TADTS data breach may have involved sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information belonging to over 748,000 individuals.

ABOUT THE ALCOHOL AND DRUG TESTING SERVICE, INC.:

TADTS is a human resources services company based in Texas. Founded in 1994, TADTS provides federally mandated testing for the transportation, marine, aviation, pipeline, and oil and gas industries.3 Additionally, TADTS offers individual testing services such as 5 and 12 panel instant tests, breath alcohol testing, hair strand testing, and steroid testing.3 Headquartered in Houston, Texas, TADTS has five additional locations in Texas and employs over 50 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, TADTS announced that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on July 9, 2024, TADTS became aware of potential unauthorized access to data maintained in its systems.1 As a result, TADTS launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, TADTS confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and downloaded by an unauthorized actor on or around July 4, 2024. As a result, TADTS began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected.  While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
  • Driver’s license and/or government-issued identification
  • Passport number
  • USCIS or alien registration number
  • Bank/financial information
  • Credit or debit card information
  • Username and password
  • Email and password
  • Health insurance information
  • Biometric information

 

As a result of the breach, TADTS posted a notice of the incident on its website. Additionally, on July 17, 2025, TADTS began sending breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the website breach notice, TADTS is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted.
