Daystar Television Network Data Breach Investigation

Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Word of God Fellowship, Inc., which does business as Daystar Television Network (“Daystar”) regarding its recent data breach. The Daystar data breach involved sensitive personal information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

Daystar is a broadcast media production and distribution company based in Texas. Established in 1997, Daystar is a faith-based television network broadcasting in the United States, Isreal, and more.2,3 Headquartered in Bedford, Texas, Daystar employs over 500 individuals.3

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Daystar reported to the Attorney General of Maine that the sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, Daystar became aware of unauthorized access within its network environment.1 As a result, Daystar launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, Daystar determined that an unauthorized actor accessed their network and may have accessed and acquired certain files on June 5, 2024.1 As a result, Daystar began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted, as well as identify the specific individuals affected. The exact type of personal information potentially exposed has not been made publicly available by Daystar. However, according to Maine state reporting guidelines, “personal information” can include the following types of information:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Driver’s license or state identification card number
  • Account number, credit card number or debit card number, if circumstances exist wherein such a number could be used without additional identifying information, access codes or passwords
  • Account passwords or personal identification number or other access codes

 

Recently, Daystar began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, Daystar is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
