WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, WNYE reported to the Attorney General of Vermont that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on or around April 25, 2025, WNYE detected a network security incident. 1 Following this discovery, WNYE launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, WNYE confirmed that sensitive personal information may have been accessed by an unauthorized third party. As a result, WNYE began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted, as well as identify the specific individuals affected.1 While WNYE found no evidence that information has been specifically misused, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
On June 4, 2025, WNYE began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Vermont residents, WNYE is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complementary credit monitoring services and proactive fraud assistance via Cyberscout.
