WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Dermatologists of Birmingham announced that the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on or around March 7, 2025, Dermatologists of Birmingham became aware of suspicious activity within its network environment.1 As a result, Dermatologists of Birmingham launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, Dermatologists of Birmingham confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been accessed and copied by an unauthorized third party during the breach.1 As a result, Dermatologists of Birmingham began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted, as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Social Security number
  • Address
  • Date of birth
  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • Medical diagnosis and treatment information
  • Health insurance information

 

On June 4, 2025, Dermatologists of Birmingham posted a notice of the incident on its website. Additionally, on the same day, Dermatologists of Birmingham began sending breach notification letters to impacted individuals.
