WHAT HAPPENED?
On May 26, 2025, MathWorks announced that it had experienced a ransomware attack. According to the application status page on its website, several MathWorks applications were experiencing issues on May 18, 2025.1 Updates over the following days added affected applications and noted which had been restored, with the list of affected MathWorks applications totaling Add-On Explorer, Careers at MathWorks, Cloud Center, Cody, Downloads, File Exchange, License Center, MathWorks.com, MathWorks Store, MATLAB and Simulink Course Schedule, MathWorks Account, MATLAB Answers, MATLAB Grader, MATLAB Mobile, MATLAB Online, and ThingSpeak.1 As of May 28, 2025, MathWorks is continuing to investigate the issue, and has neither publicly disclosed the nature of the cybersecurity incident nor whether it resulted in a data breach.
