WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Casner & Edwards reported to the Attorney General of Maine that the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on April 10, 2024, Casner & Edwards became aware of suspicious and unauthorized activity on its computer network initiated by people outside of Casner & Edwards.1 As a result, Casner & Edwards launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Casner & Edwards confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been viewed and obtained by an unauthorized third party between March 21 and March 23, 2024. As a result, Casner & Edwards began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Driver’s license number
- Financial account information
- Payment card information
On May 20, 2025, Casner & Edwards began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to Maine residents, Casner & Edwards is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
