WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Tri-City Cardiology discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive protected health information in its systems may have been accessed. On May 8, 2025, Tri-City Cardiology filed official notice of the data breach with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office for Civil Rights.1 Though much information is still not known about the Tri-City Cardiology breach, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ reporting guidelines require entities to report data breaches when they involve protected health information. Therefore, it is likely that the Tri-City Cardiology breach included the protected health information belonging to over 22,000 individuals. As a result of the data breach, Tri-City Cardiology may soon begin notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted.
