WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Neighbors Credit Union reported to the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its care may have been compromised.1 According to the breach notice, Neighbors Credit Union recently discovered suspicious activity within its computer network.1 As a result, Neighbors Credit Union launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, Neighbors Credit Union confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired by an unauthorized third party between September 20 and September 21, 2024. As a result, Neighbors Credit Union began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted, as well as identify the specific individuals affected. While the information impacted varies depending on the individual, the type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Date of birth
- Driver’s license number
- Financial information (e.g., account number, credit or debit card number)
- Medical information
As a result of the data breach, Neighbors Credit Union began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals.
