Strauss Borrelli PLLC, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating J. Ranck Electric, Inc. (“JRE”), regarding its recent data breach. The JRE data breach involved sensitive personal information and protected health information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

JRE is a construction service provider based in Michigan. Founded in 1986, JRE specializes in projects involving transportation, solar installation, heavy industrial, power, water, oil, and gas infrastructure.2 Today, JRE provides a wide range of support for electrical and communications contracting, as well as service, emergency, maintenance, and warranty calls.2,3 Headquartered in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, JRE employs over 200 individuals.3
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, JRE reported to the Attorney General of New Hampshire that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on March 6, 2025, JRE discovered that it had experienced a data security incident.1 As a result, JRE launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.
Through its investigation, JRE confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems belonging to employees, individual clients, and the customers of business clients may have been accessed by an unauthorized third party on February 23, 2025.1 As a result, JRE began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. The exact type of personal information potentially exposed has not been made publicly available by JRE. However, according to state reporting guidelines, “personal information” can include the following types of information:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Driver’s license or other government identification number
- Account number, credit or debit card number, in combination with any required security code, access code, or password that would permit access to an individual’s financial account
Additionally, according to the breach notice, the potentially compromised information includes Protected Health Information which, as defined by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), includes:
- An individual’s past, present or future physical or mental health or condition;
- The provision of health care to the individual; or
- The past, present, or future payment for the provision of health care to the individual
As a result of the data breach, JRE began mailing data breach notification letters to impacted individuals. Based on the breach notice sent to New Hampshire residents, JRE is providing affected individuals with a list of the specific types of sensitive information impacted and complimentary credit monitoring services.
